Coking Problem Tune Your Turbos
Have you ever faced cocking problem with your turbo? When first time I faced cocking issue I was worried but later I get to know it’s not a big issue. You can solve this problem easily but first you need to understand techniques of tuning turbos. Manufacturers provide lubricants to feed the shaft’s bearing housing. But, there are many factors that create such issue in your turbo, let know all about them…
The extremely high temperature in the turbo’s bearing housing can disintegrate oil in the bearing housing. And turbo loose its viscosity,
lubricating qualities and will cause coking.
- Using less capable engine oil, which is unable to tolerate high temperature.
- Using wide multi-viscosity range engine oil can cause cocking.
- Not replacing engine oil on the right time.
These are few top reasons of turbo cocking. You can easily handle this problem as most of them occur because of carelessness. Here is the simple solution to this problem.
Buy a turbo which comes with water jacket around the bearing housing.
Regularly change your engine oil.
Earlier I was making these mistakes and that was the reason of cocking but now I use synthetic, straight viscosity engine oil. Regularly I use to change engine oil so that what is a turbo can tolerate high temperature and perform well in any weather condition.
Not only engine oil there is one another thing you should care for, oil filter. As you change your engine oil regularly, also you should check your filter and whenever a new oil filter required change immediately. Few people think that they are using a turbo with water jacket but still you should change the engine oil and frequently oil filter. And if you have any doubt then let me clear it now, you should change your engine oil every 2,000 miles.
Oil pressure is another important factor; make sure it never exceed 70 psi. In case it exceeds the 70 psi then it will cause either continuous or frequent smoking. If your oil pump is producing more pressure that your turbo’s seal cannot tolerate then you can install restrictor in the oil feed line. Another way is to bypass system to reduce the oil pressure to the turbos.
If you consider these things you will be able to get freedom from cocking problems easily.
